About Camp Tecumseh
Camp Tecumseh was founded in 1903 by three Olympians from the University of Pennsylvania: Alexander Grant, George W. Orton and Josiah McCracken. They believed that a summer in the White Mountains on the natural sandy shoreline of Lake Winnipesaukee working on their farm, swimming in the lake, learning the skills of various sports, singing on stage and climbing mountains was a healthy experience that would, in their words, 'Make good boys better.'
Alexander Grant founded Tecumseh to 'make good boys better.' We interpret that philosophy today as an obligation to see that each child grows in self-confidence through a variety of activities, many of which are challenging. Tecumseh provides the place, the program and the people to enrich each camper's life physically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Through a summer-long program, Tecumseh fosters a spirit of community and camaraderie that lasts a lifetime.
Camp Tecumseh is accredited by the American Camping Association and is a non-profit corporation accepting campers without regard to race, color or religion. Every three years Tecumseh is re-accredited to insure compliance with all safety and health regulations required by the ACA.
